The gallery could not function without the aid of volunteer groups, who help in many ways including fundraising. The Friends of the Regional Gallery number over 300 members from a wide range of backgrounds, all of whom are united by a love of art and a desire to help its development in our region. Likewise the Volunteer Gallery Guides play a vital role in helping visitors to come to an understanding and love of art. The 2008 President of the Friends of the Orange Regional Gallery is Kenneth Dryland with a Committee comprising Sue Bentley, Rowan Jaffray, Sue Kasper, Duncan McRobert, Loretta Thurtell, Bernie Huxtable, Gloria Gilmore, Bill Pattinson, Julie Skovgaard, Brian McGuirk, Bev Duncan, John Coxhill, Margaret Hertel, and Alan Sisley. For your convenience there is a form for membership attached which you may print and post with your subscription, which is just $25 per annumum for Above (IAN MARR "ARCADIAN EPIGRAM" SANDSTONE) is an unusual inscribed work by a local artist, Ian Marr, purchased for the Gallery by the Orange Regional Arts Foundation, a philanthropic trust set up to encourage development of the Art Gallery, Theatre and Library in Orange. The Volunteer Gallery Guides joined with those of the Bathurst Regional Gallery in 1999 to present the first National Conference of the Association of Gallery Guides ever to be held outside a major metropolitan city. This conference was a major "plus" for Orange and Bathurst, with over 170 influential delegates from all State Galleries and many Regional Galleries attending for three days of excellent workshops and activities.

The gallery has a long term project to put sculptures along the green belt between the Gallery and Moulder Park (Orange has over 100 public parks and gardens). The works in the gallery environs by Richard Goodwin, Ian Marr and Bronwyn Oliver are just the first of many we hope will be commissioned over the next thirty or so years to create this planned sculpture walk, which should be a tourist attraction in its own right. These important works were funded by the Friends of the Orange Regional Gallery, the Orange Regional Arts Foundation, with matching assistance from the NSW Ministry for the Arts. The Bronwyn Oliver work is illustrated on the homepage. For further information click here.
