NEWS AND REVIEWS

A review of the current exhibitions by Friend of the Gallery Bev Duncan is below:

NEWS FROM THE GALLERY

If you like colour you will enjoy the effect of the red walls of the upstairs No. 3 gallery as a background for the exhibition named Cosmic Abstractions. These deep sky photographs by astro-photographer David Malin are marvellous. Malin's photographs were the inspiration for local ceramist Arthur McLean to create a series of decorated wall plaques displayed alongside the photographs. All these works are for purchase.

Gallery No.2 downstairs houses the work of r e a titled 'gins speak/dubb speak". It is hard to categorise r e a's work. It is a new form of indigenous story telling which crosses between film making and video installation. The viewer is seated on a light filled stool is surrounded by the image, sound, and narrative of an account of the memories of tour sisters growing up in north western N.S.W. I found the whole experience very calming and moving.

Gallery No. 1 exhibition named 'Sink or Swim' is collaborative work by Geraldine Berkemeier and Gary Shinfield

These huge works on paper, unframed, cover the walls and in one piece actually come from ceiling height and spill down onto the floor.

Many of the images are quite ghostly but mainly recognisable of sea and boating.

Orange is certainly fortunate to have our excellent gallery where the capable staff can display successfully such diverse exhibitions.

All can be viewed at Orange Regional Gallery, Cnr. Byng and Peisley streets, Orange until 16th March. Phone 63938136 for more details on gallery times and how to become a Friend of the Regional Gallery.
