Australian Modern masters gifted to Orange Regional Gallery by Mary Turner OAM. Most of the 34 works in the collection were acquired when the donor was a principal of Macquarie Galleries during the 1960s and 70s.

AN EXPANDED VIEW :THE MARY TURNER COLLECTION +

A remarkable exhibition of modernist art, featuring artists who showed at  the Macquarie Galleries in the years when Mary Turner was a Co-Director, 1958 to 1979.

The exhibition includes over 35 works lent by the Art Gallery of NSW and the National Portrait Gallery, and is mounted as 25th Anniversary exhibition.

This exhibition includes 6 Cossington Smiths, 3 Nolans, and five Ian Fairweathers for a start!

Large format works on paper incorporating a range of print media by printmakers Geraldine Berkemeier and Gary Shinfield. The show is themed around the "fragility of our lonely barques", and includes references to Ian Fairweather's famous raft trip and other notable voyages.

VALLEY TO THE SEA

The Concept of Shared Land

Works by Rick Andersen, Donald H.Green, Tanja Riese, Jacqui Ryding and Nicole Vandersteegen, all associated with the Bega region of NSW.

 The exhibition was curated for Bega Regional Gallery by Richard Maude, and in order to develop a  thematic and aesthetic unity, the artists were each mentored by Mandy Martin. An unusual idea, and a good exhibition!

SVEA'S CUP OF TEA

Svea Bjornsson's wearable art is inspired and spontaneous. Her works are usually created from recycled materials..often tea bags, which she transforms into beautiful works of art.

PRIVATE TREASURES PUBLIC PLEASURES 2

An exhibition of 200 works in most media drawing upon 37 local private collections of Orange district. 20 years ago Private Treasures 1 was held.... this is an exhibition showing what has changed in collecting art since then.

Features very many important works by artists such as Whiteley, Napangardi, Macleod, Drysdale, Olsen, Boyd, Shead, Coyte, Namatjira, Cossington Smith and many others. 

29 AUGUST TO 5 OCTOBER

DEFIANCE

Small sculptures and maquettes from 15 sculptors of the Central West, all being members of the Rogue Sculptors Group. The theme, as with the "Rogues" is indicative of the feeling of "them and us" experienced by some sculptors.

YINAA BULA-NGUMBAAY

This means “Ladies Three” in the Wiradjuri language, and features the work of Trish Carroll-Freeman, Nyree Reynolds and Joanne Reid, all well known Indigenous artists of this area.

Peter Andren MHR  1946 - 2007

A compendium exhibition of memorabilia, photographs, media clips and sound,  recording the life and career of the late Peter Andren MHR, the man who gained a deserved reputation as the "conscience of the Parliament".

Anthony Mannix has recently shown at Halle St Pierre, Paris and in the  Adelaide Biennale.

CREATURE COMFORTS

 Phillip Hammial Retrospective

A retrospective exhibition of sculpture and other works by artist and poet Phil Hammial, one of the leading lights of Outsider Art / Art Brut in Australia and internationally.

This is the largest exhibition ever shown of work by this artist, who is recognised in other countries but overlooked in his own.

Creature Comforts features work from a forty year art making career and has been borrowed from many private collections.

5 SEPTEMBER TO 18 OCTOBER

SHIBORI UNLEASHED - MARGARET BARNETT

Recent works in the artist's preferred techniques of Shibori, originally a  Japanese traditional technique to shape and dye textiles. Margaret Barnett lived in Orange for many years, but is now resident in Queensland, where she has become a leading fibre artist working in many different fields including wearable art and sculpture.

Orange Regional Gallery continues our focus on Outsider Art/Art Brut with an important exhibition of international Outsiders collected by Professor Colin Rhodes, one of the leading authorities on this artform. Dr Rhodes is currently in Australia as Dean of Sydney College of the Arts.

Continuing Orange's focus on Outsider Art/Art Brut, we   present a remarkable selection of artists with intellectual disabilities made at the studios of Arts Project Australia.

The works on show all come from the collection of Australian Galleries Director Stuart Purves, who has been associated with Arts Project Australia for some years.

Thirty two years of Japanese expatriate Peter Sawa's photographs, most of them made in Australia, ranging from photo-journalism, portraiture and landscapes to pinhole photography.

Scott Gilbank was based in Jakarta as an Advertising photographer 1994 -2007. This exhibition showcases a fabulous diary of images of his travels around the world from that base.

Curated by underground artist Glenno Smith, this exhibition features a fantastic array of "in your face" music promotion and cultural material since the eighties. Glenno knows everyone in the scene, and this exhibition shows it. Glenno is fast losing his underground status, with recent successful shows of his own art in Japan and America.
